Health Sciences Library Mission Statement

We advance scholarship, research, education and health care by anticipating information needs, providing essential resources, and facilitating learning for the greater health sciences community.

Based on the southern end of UW's Seattle campus, HSL is a flagship branch of the UW Libraries and the premier health sciences library in the Pacific Northwest. HSL's staff supports and collaborates with users across Washington and the Pacific Northwest. Additionally, HSL supports the education and research of six UW schools: Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Public Health, and Social Work. NNLM Region 5

The University of Washington Health Sciences Library is home to the Regional Medical Library (RML) for the Network of the National Libraries of Medicine (NNLM) Region 5.

The NNLM Region 5, along with its sister regions, three national offices, and four national centers, provides leadership in regional and national engagement and training efforts to improve access to health information for health professionals and the public.

NNLM Region 5 members include over 830 academic, health sciences, and public libraries and community-based organizations in Alaska, California, Hawaii, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, and U.S. Territories and Freely Associated States in the Pacific.

HEALWA

HEALWA The On Call Library for Washington State Practitioners

HEALWA is an online library for healthcare providers in Washington State. Funded by a portion of the license fees of participating professions, it is a collection of evidence-based resources for healthcare providers in clinical care. HEALWA includes access to subscription journals, databases and tools. HEALWA can help users with:

  • Finding journal articles
  • Checking the latest treatment guidelines
  • Patient education
  • Point of care information
  • CME and CNE
